2006 Indoor World Trial Championship Round 7
Peterburgsky Sports Complex - St. Petersburg, Russia
- 12-2-2006 - Attendance: 10,500
Consecutive sixth place
Fujinami and the team staff flied out Belfast 5:30 in the morning
on Saturday on 21st; less than three hours after having late dinner.
Since there was no direct flight, they had to change flights a couple
of times before reaching the nearest airport from St. Petersburg. When
they finally arrived the hotel, it was around 5 in the evening.
They had a short break before having a meeting with the organizer
at 8 in the morning on Sunday, and the evening came the competition
got under way.
There were two wild card riders: Blazsiak and Bou, who had been competing
regularly this year and fighting for the championship, and five permanent
riders lined up for the Russian round.
Boudidn't show any problem at the first three sections so as all
the permanent riders, so the real challenge of the lap started from
the section four.
For Fujinami, the challenge started a bit earlier than the rest when
he hit the brake pedal at the obstacle at the section three breaking
the part into two. The rear brake wasn't very important at the second
half of the section, so he was able to finish without any penalty point.
Having no time for fixing the bike at the time - 10 minutes for seven
sections - Fuji switched to the spare bike. Although 'works' spare
bike was available in Russia, unlike last year where they had only
standard bike for spare all year, it wasn't exactly Fujinami special.
He rode the next two sections only to five both sections.
He took a moment to wait for the bike to get fixed, and when the bike
returned to Fuji, he had forty seconds to ride remaining two sections.
He went back, but he fived both sections again.
Fuji was a distance sixth when the observed sections were over with
twenty points. But Lampkin fived High-Jump and lost the DL battle against
Fuji. Fuji also added one point at HJ, so as a result, two Montesa
riders finished the lap with twenty one points in a tie. However Lampkin
took the fifth place as he finished the lap more than a minute quicker
than Fuji, who spent time for fixing the bike. Fuji then finished sixth
for two consecutive rounds.
