2006 Indoor World Trial Championship Round 6
Odyssey Arena - Belfast, Northern Ireland - 10/2/2006
- Attendance: 5,000
Crucial error - Finished lowest in 2006
As there had been some changes in championship calendar, the round
six took place in Belfast on Feb.10th. The next round in Russia was
waiting only two days away, so there was no time for the riders and
the teams to relax and they rushed to leave the country after the event
was over.
Having Morris, Dabill and Bou lined up as wild-card riders, there
were a total of eight riders participated in the event; four Spanish,
three English and one Japanese. As the starting order for the permanent
rider rotates this year, Fujinami once again assigned as the number
one starting rider.
The first section wasn't a big problem, as all riders marked clean
except two English wild-card riders. At the following section, Cabestany
was the only rider who marked clean. Raga managed to ride with a single
point, but the rest of the riders all fived.
The section three looked to be easy again, and Cabestany became the
only permanent rider, but this time, unable to mark clean and added
five points instead. It was a decisive mistake for the Spaniard, and
later, it costed him a chance going to the final lap.
Fuji in turn made a crucial mistake at the section four. He knew the
section was difficult, as he saw Bou and Raga having a tough time in
the section to add one point earlier. He expected to do a similar ride,
but he failed to climb the step to become the sole permanent rider
to five at the section.
As the seven observed sections were over, Fuji and Cabestany finished
with eleven points in a tie. They had a final battle for the fifth
place at the Double-Lane. Fuji took too much time going over a slippery
log, and he lost the battle to finish at the sixth place, the lowest
position of the season for him.
Lampkin, who had been struggling this year, came back strong in Belfast.
He finished second in the qualification lap after beating Bou at the
DL. He continued to ride strong to finish with fifteen points. Fajardo,
who finished in a tie with Lampkin at the qualification lap, lost the
beat at the final lap to finish with twenty-five points. Lampkin celebrated
his first podium of the season at the second place.
